Burchell's Coucall, Port Elizabeth - Bird Watching
Port Elizabeth and the surrounding area is a great place for bird watching
This video of Burchell's Coucal was taken in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on 4th January 2010. Rain was about and this rain bird's call was heard just before this video was taken. As bird lovers know Birchell's Coucal is a very secretaive bird so the chance of this video was a real gift. So often this bird is heard but not seen. I hope the video is enjoyed. My birdbook (The Wildlife of Southern Africa" (Southern Book Publishers, Rivonia, South Africa 1997) says that the bird is "secretive ... but may perch conspiciously". What an accurate description! Seconds later the bird walked into the bush on the right and disappeared.

King George's Guesthouse, Port Elizabeth, South Africa - Accomodation in Port Elizabeth for the 2010 Soccer World Cup
The King George's Guesthouse in King George's Road, Mill Park, Port Elizabeth, South Africa is a great place to stay for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. It is across the road from where I live. Our family and friends have used it and found it excellent - last used this December 2009. Here is why it is just right:
I spoke to the Guesthouse today (29 December 2009). There is still some accomodation available
Caution: When crossing King George's road on foot cross in the middle of the block as cars come round the two corners of the block quite fast. And remember: Cars drive on the left of the road!
- It is very comfortable
- It is in a safe area
- It is guarded by an electric fence
- It has electronic gares
- It is 100m from a supermarket (the SPAR in Cape Road)
- It is 5 minutes from an exellent Golf Course - The Port Elizabeth Golf Club
- It is about 10 minutes from the airport
- It is about 5 minutes from the freeway (beltway)
- It is about 10/15 minutes from the Casino on the Beach Front
- AND it is not too far from the Soccer Stadium
